J. Joseph Schlafly, Senior Vice President, Director of Public Finance. Mr. Schlafly joined Stifel, Nicolaus & Company, Incorporated in 1980 and is a member of the firm’s Board of Directors. Mr. Schlafly is the Director of Public Finance and is Chairman of the firm’s Municipal Underwriting Commitment Committee. Mr. Schlafly manages the Public Finance offices in Missouri, Illinois, and Kansas.
Mr. Schlafly’s public finance experience spans approximately 25 years and includes a broad involvement in providing legal, investment banking, and financial advisory services to tax-exempt entities. After leaving the active practice of law in 1980, Mr. Schlafly began to represent issuer clients in all areas of tax-exempt finance. Mr. Schlafly has structured and overseen the issuance of more than $9 billion in taxable and tax-exempt financings over the past five years. Mr. Schlafly has spent considerable time over the past 25 years working with the State of Missouri and St. Louis County with respect to a large variety of financings. Mr. Schlafly has intimate knowledge of the credit of each jurisdiction and the history of many of the projects, including the St. Louis Dome project.
Mr. Schlafly is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania (A.B. 1973) and the St. Louis University School of Law (J.D. 1977).
